The uber-vintage Flamingo Hotel will blast off into outer space this Friday night with the creative minds of Parasol Project at the helm. Atomic #10 is a multi-media extravaganza of performance and visual art, experiential environments, interactive fun, live music, lights and dancing. The hotel’s lobby,  ballroom, front desk area, individual hotel rooms, porte-cochiere (the covered thing you drive under when you check in) and part of the parking lot will be completely transformed into a vibrant canvas for the evening by over 25 artists. Collaborators include a live lounge music ensemble, a blacklight room created by PLAY, live velvet painting by Rachelle Diaz aka Art Diva of this very blog, Miss Colleena Candelabra of Candelabra Gallery as the Tucson Cactus-Bra Girl, synchronized swimming performances*, cigarette girls, samba procession, DJ’s, VIP area, more art, more performers, and a finale by electronic duo/light manipulators PLOY. Everyone is encouraged to come in kitchy, campy, groovy and/or glamorous attire in the spirit of the retro vibe of the motel. This’ll be one of your last chances to revel in the faded neon-lit glory of one of Tucson’s roadside landmarks before it’s totally re-vamped into a bland Quality Inn.
*The pool will be open for hotel guests, still unconfirmed as to whether or not it’ll be open to party-goers. I have a feeling people will jump in anyways!
